The BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition has broken all records with 1,616 projects entered into the 2009 exhibition, including 11 entries from Westmeath.

Over the past year, the National Development Plan continued to deliver significant investment in a range of economic and social projects in Co Westmeath. Despite the global financial crisis and the pressure on Ireland’s public finances, further investment was made in training and employment programmes, business supports, education, healthcare, social housing, and the county’s physical infrastructure during 2008.

Secondary school students from all over Westmeath are gearing up to compete in the Westmeath County Student Enterprise Awards, to take place on Friday March 6 in Golden Island Shopping Centre, Athlone. The winning team will represent Westmeath in the national finals in May.
